The Duality of Songs : "One More Line"
I love when you discover the duality in a song - another perspective that sits behind the meaning at the forefront.

"One more line rolls into another and we don't ever want to close our eyes … just one more line"
“One More Line” is a song inspired by love. And friendship. A song about the intoxicating power of words as seen through the perspective of a book. A book who loves its reader, and is loved by its reader. Of being held with the careful turning of its pages by the reader who is captivated by the words inside - and who wants desperately to stay awake though day weighs heavily on their eyelids …
I love when you discover the duality in a song - another perspective that sits behind the meaning at the forefront. Something that comes through you intuitively and quietly and arrives in the meaning of the song. I clearly remember the ah-ha moment of finding the duality of this song while sitting at the board listening to North record his vocals ... how it landed in that split second and just made 100% sense.
While this song is about love and friendship, it's also about the writing relationship between North and I. About the comfortable and familiar space we shared for many years and the many hours we worked together. Of the long busy days we spent writing with Artists that left us with only the late night / early morning hours to write for ourselves. Of the synergy in those late-night writing sessions where, barely able to keep our eyes open, we forfeited sleep for the satisfaction of finding or finishing a song, fighting for ‘one more line’ as the sun peeked through the blinds … and how we grabbed coffee as we headed into the next day, next Artist session with no sleep.
I love that “One More Line” celebrates as well, that chapter. 🩵
